In agriculture there are more and more external service providers, such as contractors. The employees in these companies are not classified as agricultural workers.
Migrant workers in German agriculture
Around 300,000 people come to Germany every year to cut asparagus and harvest strawberries, apples, and cucumbers. These labourers make up around 60% of all agricultural workers in the country. The great majority of these people come from Poland, Bulgaria, and Romania.

270,000. The number of farms is decreasing whilst the size of the farms is growing.
Arable farmland
18,2 Mio. hectare. Most of the arable farmland is used for cropland 2/3, 1/3 is used as permanent grassland.
